Know what you’re walking into
Ever wonder how your wifi network will hold up in different environments? My team and I travel all over the U.S. and we’re combating something new EVERY week. THIS is how we plan for each event.
So what are we looking at here?
This is the Texas A&M Hotel Conference Center. The room is rectangular 100’ x 80’. The ballroom is broken up into quadrants for 4 simultaneous CE courses (4 live streams).
There’s only so much equipment we can bring for each event — It all must fit into (for this event) 2 Orange cases (Nanuk 935).
I’ll do a full show on this upcoming event after the big day, but the punchline is this is a Mevo + Wirecast + Wirecast Desktop Capture shoot. This configuration enables the ability for the lowest amount of bandwidth usage — enabling Wifi for 4 presenter Macs, 4 Mevo Starts and then 4 ethernet Streaming Macs.
Network setup:
-Ubiquiti Dream Machine
-Ubiquiti Flex HD AP
-1 100’ ethernet cable
The problematic room is the lower left. We can expect the signal to be best case -70dBm. It’s possible that the Mac and Mevo could work wirelessly in this room — but I’ll be bringing extra ethernet cables just in case.
How did I get this heat map?
Yet another advantage of using Ubiquiti products. This is their Design Center web app and it is FREE to use!
Knowledge is power friends.
Cheers
