Black or White Phones: Which is Better Live Streaming

********Let me be 100% clear — this has ZERO to do with race, skin color or the treatment human beings. Read the title again if that is confusing.********

Consider this - You’re live streaming in a public place that is somewhat compact and not a lot of room to move in the aisle ways. Because you’re shooting with iPhone, you need to be closer to the subject matter vs the back of the room. In this small room and because your cameras are ‘down-in-front’ you want them to be seen, but not distracting— to prevent people from running into your stand and knocking it over. In this case, a white phone might help that problem.

As a speaker on stage— these days we actually have to engage the cameras as they are a representation of humans (virtually). From a stage with lights and what not, it can be hard to see the camera placements. But with a White phone,the camera could be seen easier.

When isn’t a white phone better? Honestly— I’m not 100% saying that it is. I’m just providing specific examples of when it might be better. Continuing that thought: when the cameras truly need to be incognito, space gray phones are the way to go - and honestly draw less attention overall for that ‘Pro’ appearance.

Lastly— I beleive the the question you should consider is what do you gain from both? For me— I WANT my setup to be seen for saftey and to make it easier to be see from stage— But I WANT my setup to be seen overall by EVERYONE in the room. I want them to know that we there and WHY. It’s another reason also for why I wear Orange shirts— I WANT to be seen. It strikes up MANY conversations and leads to more work overall. If you’re not seen or heard— You’re NOT noticed (like so many production people or companies).

So what am I going with? As of this moment— If I need to be incognito, I can always toss a case on. Otherwise a white / silver iPhone is the way to go.
