Mobile Video: What’s In My Case?

Feb. 2022 Update.

Video production as a whole requires a lot of gear in order to capture or do the gig, but that’s using the traditional tools. Today we’re going to focus on the non-traditional tools used for Mobile Live Streaming and Video Production.

This is what I like to call the next level. Seriously. For once in my career, I’m bringing way less equipment to a gig and accomplishing more — way more!

Let’s set some ground rules for what “Mobile” actually means. According to Dictionary.com: “Digital Technology. pertaining to or noting a cell phone, usually one with computing ability, or a portable, wireless computing device used while held in the hand, as in mobile tablet; mobile PDA; mobile app.” <—— With that said, professional live streaming must be done with mobile devices and in this case: iPhones.

iPhones! The iPhone has many strengths and weaknesses. Let’s look at a few:

Strengths

  • Compact / Extremely Mobile

  • Billions invested yearly in R&D

  • 4 total cameras on device

  • Latest technology

Weaknesses

  • Low light

  • Thermal capacity

  • No external memory card options

I’ll save the full review of an iPhone for video production for another blog. Let’s look at what’s the latest gear that we’re using for streaming and how you can get your hands on all of it too.
